HJF is seeking a Senior HVAC Mechanic to Installs, service and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning systems and related environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of heating and refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.

This position will be in support of PRS- Facilities.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.   • General: Install, modify, maintain, troubleshoot and repair new and existing utility systems, electrical systems and commercial/industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) & refrigeration systems.
  • Maintenance: Check air handling equipment. Complete all preventive maintenance (PM) and manage PM schedules as directed by the supervisor. Coordinate the management of all Routine Work Requests (RWR) with the supervisor to ensure a timely execution of all RWRs. As necessary, work with other tradespeople to accomplish tasks
  • Troubleshoot & Repair: Trace and locate defects using the proper tools and testing devices including troubleshooting and repairing minor electrical circuits and equipment. Accomplish repairs according to accepted trade practices. As necessary, work with other tradespeople to accomplish tasks.
  • Mentor less experienced HVAC and tradespeople. Works from oral instructions, blue prints, and written work orders
  • Plans test procedures, determines the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed, and installs and repairs a variety of systems with little or no check during the progress of the assignment.
  • Scheduled overtime as required by the Facilities Department with proper notification. This does not apply to emergency events and/or incidents, which may require 100% participation 10% of the time.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Extensive knowledge of the construction and operation of a variety of domestic systems.
  • Skilled in servicing power sources.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of accepted trade methods and techniques.
  • Ability to work from oral instructions, blueprints and written work orders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Operating motor vehicles, machinery, and/or power tools.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Preferred certifications: EPA Section 608, R-410A, Indoor Air Quality, North American Technician Excellence (NATE) and Preventive Maintenance HVAC.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office/maintenance setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $27.72- $44.76. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
