Summary of Position

The Commercial Sales Trainer will equip the sales teams with the necessary clinical, technical, and selling skills to effectively promote and support the full portfolio Fulgent Genetics diagnostic services and products, including genomics, anatomic pathology, neurology, and oncology. They will develop, implement, and manage innovative solutions that support the introductory learning process for new hires as well as ongoing development of existing sales teammates.

Where possible, this position will support enterprise-wide sales training as well as development and rollout of new business initiatives. Qualified candidates for this role are specialized professionals with a hybrid of sales expertise, clinical knowledge, and instructional design experience. Key activities include defining training requirements, collaboration with subject matter experts, resource alignment, content creation, delivery, and evaluation to ensure proficiency.



Key Job Elements



  • Develop Specialized Curriculum: Design and update training materials, e-learning modules, and workshops. Develop structured onboarding training programs following company verticals and lines of business.
  • Deliver Technical & Sales Training: Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions for new hires and existing representatives; covering product knowledge, clinical applications, the competitive landscape, and regulatory compliance. Capture and maintain directionally correct training sessions to be accessible 24/7 in a virtual training library.
  • Resource Engagement: Leverage strengths and best practices of proven performers to deliver relevant, repeatable, high quality learning experiences. Collaborate with subject matter experts to deliver clinical and technical education.
  • Provide Field Coaching & Support: Spend time in the field with sales representatives, providing one-on-one coaching, observing sales encounters, and offering constructive feedback to improve talk tracks, negotiation skills, and outcomes. Engage with leaders to provide performance observations following field travel.
  • Assess & Evaluate Performance: Measure the effectiveness of training programs through assessments and key performance indicators (KPIs), using data and feedback to continuously improve training methods and content. Ensure sales representatives are proficient in product knowledge, compliant offerings, and industry-specific sales techniques.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Partner closely with sales leadership, marketing, the medical practice(s), and technical support teams to ensure training aligns with product complexities, brand messaging, and business objectives. Coverage will include New Hire Sales Training, advanced training, new product launches/offerings, and acquisitions.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert: Act as a go-to expert on diagnostic workflows, market trends, and technical details to build credibility with sales teams and the medical professionals they engage with (e.g., clinicians, practice managers, C-suite executives, decision-makers, office staff).
  • Ensure Compliance: Guarantee all training materials and sales practices meet stringent medical, legal, and regulatory requirements within the healthcare industry.
  • Other Responsibilities: The ability to train teammates in effectively utilizing the CRM to meet company expectations, as well as business development and lead generation if or when training activity experiences a period of low demand.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience



  • Bachelor's degree required or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Training & Development certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years in instructional design, curriculum development and training delivery or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience in the health care industry required.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional weekends and/or evenings, for off-site training programs, trade shows, and sales meetings.
  • Clinical Knowledge: A deep, technical understanding of referral workflows, laboratory operations, diagnostic offerings, and relevant disease states is essential to effectively train and build credibility.
  • Sales Acumen: Proven track record as a successful medical sales representative.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: The ability to simplify complex scientific and technical information into clear, persuasive sales messaging for diverse audiences. Demonstrated success in development and delivery of training programs utilizing skills in instructional design, program design & development, and training technologies.
  • Coaching & Mentoring Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, motivate, and guide sales professionals to achieve their goals.
  • Analytical Skills: Competence in analyzing sales data and performance metrics to identify training needs and measure program impact.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: The capacity to adapt training methods to meet the specific needs of different learners and evolve in nimble environment.
  • Accountability: Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and ability to work autonomously. Well organized, able to meet deadlines, multi-task, and work in a dynamic environment where priorities or needs may shift.

Compensation



  • The compensation offered is for the first year, and depends on several factors including but not limited to technical knowledge, sales acumen, training skills, total years of experience, and location. Total compensation for this role is between $150,000 - $180,000 in the first year of employment. Car mileage is expensed at current GSA rates.
