Job Summary The Construction Inspector for Light Rail projects is responsible for overseeing and verifying the quality and compliance of construction activities related to light rail infrastructure. This role requires flexibility to work day or night shifts depending on construction sequencing and ongoing activities. The inspector ensures that all work meets approved drawings, specifications, safety standards, and project quality requirements throughout the construction lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Inspection & Quality Control
  • Inspect construction activities including trackwork, civil structures, concrete works, and associated rail infrastructure components.
  • Verify compliance with approved construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs).
  • Monitor workmanship quality, dimensional tolerances, material usage, and installation procedures.
  • Identify and document defects or non-conformances such as cracks, misalignments, improper installations, or safety hazards.
Materials & Testing
  • Confirm that materials used (concrete, steel, aggregates, etc.) meet project specifications and approved submittals.
  • Witness and record testing activities such as concrete strength tests, soil compaction, and other relevant quality tests.
  • Monitor curing, installation, and assembly processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, checklists, and photographic records of construction progress and quality.
  • Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Review and endorse quality documentation, test results, and contractor submissions.
  • Coordinate with project engineers, quality assurance teams, and contractors to resolve issues promptly.
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce adherence to project safety plans and regulatory requirements on-site.
  • Report unsafe conditions or practices immediately and promote a culture of safety awareness.
  • Participate in safety meetings and audits as required.
Coordination & Communication
  • Liaise with engineers, designers, contractors, and client representatives to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Support audits, inspections, and acceptance tests as needed.
  • Adapt to changing construction schedules and shift requirements to ensure continuous inspection coverage.
Qualifications & Experience Education
  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3-7 years of construction inspection experience, preferably in rail infrastructure or heavy civil projects.
  • Experience with light rail or transit construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with trackwork, concrete structures, and rail systems inspection is an advantage.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and quality standards for rail infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and quality plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant testing standards and inspection procedures.
  • ACI Certification preferred

  • Compliance with all safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) mandatory.
This position demands a proactive, adaptable inspector who can maintain high-quality standards while accommodating the dynamic scheduling needs of light rail construction projects. The ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, is essential to support continuous construction progress
