Lecturer of Music - Cello

All faculty at Georgia State are, as part of their essential job duties, expected to: (1) be physically present on-campus as needed to contribute to Georgia State's in-person educational experience, and (2) be able to teach in each of the following instructional modalities - in-person, online, or blended/hybrid - as determined by their Department Chair or Dean.

The School of Music is part of the College of the Arts, which was established in 2016 and also includes the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design, the School of Film, Media & Theatre, and the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music. In addition to offering some of the university's most popular majors, the college connects faculty and students with Atlanta's thriving arts scene and booming film and music industries.

Responsibilities:

* Teaching courses including applied cello and related areas (such as chamber music coaching, string pedagogy and literature)

* Teaching courses in a secondary area of specialization such as music education, foundation studies (music theory/aural skills or music history), or conducting

*Service, including participation in university and/or departmental committees, activity in professional organizations, active recruitment and participation in outreach activities, and educational or creative activities that contribute to an active portfolio in the field

* Demonstrated excellence and experience in cello performance and teaching required (solo, chamber, and/or orchestral) required

*Evidence of qualification to teach in a secondary area (music education, music theory, or music history) required
- Evidence of an understanding of diverse and varied styles of repertoire and performance practice preferred.

Master's degree in cello performance and/or pedagogy required

*A record of successful recruitment of cello students is preferred
-3 years teaching experience in higher education preferred (teaching assistantship may be considered toward required experience)
-doctoral degree in cello performance and/or pedagogy preferred

*Letter of application which should address relevant experience (both in cello and a secondary area), teaching philosophy and your approach to fostering student success, recruitment, and balancing an active teaching position with your interests as a performer.

* High-quality video recording of recent (within the past 3 years) performances. Solo repertoire should be prioritized, but an example of chamber music may be included. Videos should not exceed 30 minutes of music.

* High-quality video recording of teaching (cello) high-school of collegiate level student(s). Teaching videos should be 20-30 minutes in length.
