Genesis10 is currently seeking a Scrum Master for a 12-month contract role with our utilities client in Minneapolis, MN. This role will be hybrid 2-3 days onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates may sit in Denver or Minneapolis. This role will start in February 2026.

Compensation: $75.00 - 80.00 per hour W2, depending on skill and experience level.

Description:
This position will lead the project planning effort, including the definition of the backlog, sprint content, and key design decisions. Oversees project budgets and partners with the product owner. Conducts required ceremonies, facilitates backlog grooming activities, and develops and distributes project- or product-related communications.

Job Details and Requirements Section
What does a typical day look like? The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating Agile events, assisting the team in removing impediments or blockers to their work, ensuring proper housekeeping by the team in tools like Jira, and being available for team support. The team currently runs in 2-week sprints.

What is the size of the group this position will be supporting? Who are some of the key players this person will be working with? The team is between 12 and 14 people currently. This Scrum Master will work directly with leaders from the portfolio solution architecture team such as product owners, solution architects, etc.

Will this resource support internal (business) or external customers? This resource will act as a shared service to support internal business across all of technology services.

What are the main technology application/software skills/experience this resource will be required to possess? Experience with the Atlassian suite, including Jira, Confluence, Jira Align, etc. The resource should also be proficient with ServiceNow (nice to have).

Describe the work environment/team culture (supportive/collaborative, teamwork or individual contributor). The resource should possess a strong spirit of collaboration.

What is the ramp-up time/process for this role? Aside from having the required skill set, approximately how long will it take to train on the client's process, procedures, and policies? The resource should be proficient within a few (2-week) sprints.

  • Coaching and training experience: Ability to coach teams and provide training on Agile methodologies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills: Must be an excellent communicator and collaborator, capable of working across teams and breaking down silos to improve collaboration and eliminate blame-shifting.
  • Experience with organizational Agile expansion: Should have experience or the ability to help grow agility beyond team-level Scrum practices.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving: Ability to manage organizational dependencies collaboratively, breaking down barriers between teams.
  • This resource does not need to be highly technical. Soft skills, such as strong collaboration and communication, are the main priority-not necessarily experience in data or the utility industry.
What non-technical skills are necessary (e.g., communication, problem solving, team player)? Strong communication and collaboration skills, a strong spirit of teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability.

Ideal candidate background and how many years are required? 5-7 years. The most common progression path may be Project Manager/Program Manager to Scrum Master. The challenge is distinguishing between a Scrum Master mindset and a Project Manager mindset. The client is looking for someone whose career progression provides experience allowing flexibility in working in an Agile environment. The manager values experience over education.

Are there any specific companies you like to see on a candidate's resume? The client is looking for a well-rounded Scrum Master who has held previous roles within large matrixed organizations and can demonstrate the ability to flex and pivot across different environments.

Are there any certifications that the candidate must possess? Must have a Scrum certification (not tied to a specific type) to show proficiency and understanding of Scrum mastery mechanics.
