Reuters is looking for a skilled, creative and ambitious editor to oversee our coverage of Capitol Hill, U.S. politics generally and federal law enforcement. The ideal candidate would move easily between fast-breaking news and enterprise, with the goal of capturing the news moment with distinctive stories and inspiring the best possible work from a talented, diverse group of reporters. Experience editing political journalism is a must, as is the ability to consistently make good decisions about what to do (and not do) in a fast-paced and highly competitive news environment. The ability to work with reporters to get scoops and break news is a must, as is the ability to elevate copy. The best candidate for this job also will have a knack for finding the engaging, the offbeat, the illuminating story target that others might not see. This editor will also have a leading role in shaping Reuters' coverage of the coming elections in 2026 and 2028, with ample opportunity to put a stamp on the most important political stories of our time. Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $146,790 USD - $272,610 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
