Virginia Cancer Specialists, an affiliate of McKesson Specialty Health and US Oncology, a leader in Cancer Care, is seeking a Full Time Retail Pharmacy Tech for our Cancer Center in Fairfax. Pharmacy Technician certification and experience with patient assistance programs and/or foundation assistance is preferred.

This is a Monday - Friday position, we offer paid holidays, and GREAT BENEFITS INCLUDE: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), and Profit Sharing Plan.

Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist working within a licensed pharmacy, the retail pharmacy technician is responsible for receiving, filling, and prescription requests. The retail pharmacy technician plays a significant role in the coordination of patient access to care and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities - Performs the following tasks in an accurate and timely fashion under the supervision of a pharmacist:

  • Intercepts and accurately processes chemotherapy prescriptions in and prepares orders for delivery via FedEx or courier
  • Accurately enters patients into electronic software system and updates/maintains records as needed
  • Investigates opportunities for pharmaceutical company-based patient assistance and/or foundation assistance to ensure access to unaffordable medications
  • Appropriately and thoroughly communicates with Prior Authorization specialist and other team members to help facilitate affordable access to chemotherapy medications
  • Properly handles insurance denials, unique circumstances, and stipulations
  • Completes cash register transactions and processes End-of-Day paperwork
  • Contacts patients and/or caregivers to determine supply needs, establish refill schedules and schedule FedEx deliveries as indicated
  • Confirms FedEx delivery signatures after delivery and/or troubleshoots failed deliveries
  • Provides a superior patient customer service experience at all times
  • Communicates clearly and effectively both in person, via email and phone to a variety of audiences including patients, patient care providers, physicians, pharmacists, and staff
  • Documents all pertinent patient communications and involves the pharmacist as needed
  • Places daily drug orders and controls inventory by only ordering as needed
  • Performs monthly drug inventory and maintains a record for the Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy
  • Maintains organized prescription records according to state and federal laws
  • Assists with audits as needed
  • Ensures that all pharmacy areas are cleaned regularly per company policy
  • Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices and policies
  • Complies with state and federal laws

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and electronically
  • Delivering patient care in a timely manner
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Maintain attention to detail in all matters pertaining to patient care
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Proficient at simple math

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent. One to three years experience in a pharmacy. Virginia Pharmacy Technician Certification Required.
