Role Summary

The Sr. Servie Engineer, Body Structures is responsible for the end-to-end definition, readiness, and continuous improvement of body sheetmetal service parts and structural service assembly designs. Partnering closely with Engineering, Service NPI, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Suppliers in a fast-paced environment. They will drive change management in PLM, ensure accurate BOM and CAD deliverables, and connect field learnings back into production and design to improve repairability, availability, and cost.


Responsibilities

  • Create clear standards, playbooks, and metrics for service part definition, change management, and supplier engagement; track outcomes and escalate risks early.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment with Engineering, Service NPI, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure service part feasibility, manufacturability, and supply continuity.
  • Champion field feedback loops, structured problem solving, and closed-loop corrective actions to improve quality, repairability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Work with part suppliers to communicate technical requirements and address questions.
  • Create and maintain service part BOMs, CAD, and drawings in the PLM system; ensure all required PLM attributes are accurate and current.
  • Identify, define, and escalate emerging service part issues into a closed-loop system for resolution.
  • Coordinate return and analysis of key parts replaced in the field to enable root-cause analysis and production fixes.
  • Support dealer and field action bulletins related to service parts (safety, compliance, customer satisfaction, service updates).
  • Lead/coordinate process development for producing structural service assemblies within defined production parameters, especially BodyInWhite (BIW) scope.
  • Maintain service assembly production alignment with the latest production updates via rigorous change management.
  • Oversee development of jigs and fixtures required for fabrication of service assemblies.
  • Provide input into new vehicle designs to promote repairability and drive a culture of prediction, prevention, and protection.
  • Perform change management activities (evaluate service impact, interchangeability, and disposition) as production designs are updated.
  • Drive Prediction, Prevention, and Protection culture in everything we do.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience designing and releasing structural components
  • BS in Engineering or Automotive Technology required
  • Experience with development of both aluminum and steel vehicle structures and associated joining methods (e.g. welding, rivets, adhesives) a plus
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
  • Demonstrated leadership driving service requirements in a cross-team, highly collaborative environment; ability to manage multiple projects across locations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; effective with internal and external partners
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $107,800 to $134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
