JOB TITLE Data Research Analyst I JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Data Analyst I provides essential support for the systematic collection, analysis, and processing of data to inform institutional and unit-level planning, decision-making, evaluation, and accountability reporting. The primary focus of the Analyst's work is to ingest and collect data from disparate sources and formats, and to integrate that data into a highly usable state for analytical and operational use. This includes creating visualizations or dashboards to present large-scale surveys and datasets. This position supports modeling and predictive design forecasting for state and federal reporting. JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures accurate, timely, consistent, relevant, and accessible data for internal use; for mandatory federal and state reports; and for other external agencies, data exchange groups, and publishers of college guidebooks and rankings.

  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports and questionnaires on matters pertaining to university operations, including, but not limited to, performance funding, performance indicators, accountability reports, work plans, academic program reviews, faculty productivity, strategic enrollment planning, student persistence and success, peer comparisons, and accreditation.

  • Develops standard reports for use in decision modeling for program review analysis, accreditation efforts and statistical analyses using various software applications and delivery methods.

  • Provides direct support in identifying and maintaining a Tableau report presence to analyze, visualize (through dashboards), forecasts, and interpret complex data sets.

  • Assists in designing and developing various data marts using data stored in databases and disseminates the data on behalf of the university to individuals or groups.

  • Provides routine ad-hoc data as requested from university personnel by writing queries against both production and informational databases to provide departmental and university-level data for decision-making.

  • Establishes techniques and performs verification and validation of data from source systems prior to reporting data to the Florida Board of Governors to ensure the accuracy of data.

  • Focuses on the delivery of faculty, staff, and employee data and information for federal, national, and state reporting and is responsible for assisting in gathering, analyzing, calculating, reconciling, and compiling data needed to complete federal, national and state agency surveys (to include, but not be limited to, IPEDS, Board of Governors file reports, U.S. News, College Board, Student Clearinghouse, ABET, and CUPA).

  • Assists with compiling evidentiary documentation and data for regional and programmatic accreditation activities.

  • Documents data elements, report specifications, and associated business processes for the provision of university data for both external and internal reports.

  • Works with staff members in the functional offices across campus to facilitate the compilation of information needed for the various surveys and data requests.

  • Serves as a member or project manager of key institutional, divisional, and unit committees, task forces, councils, and project teams.

  • Works with assessment teams to reach data-informed decisions and helps create action plans for quality improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated expertise with data management computer applications, query tools, and relational databases to extract data from existing systems, join large datasets, manipulate data (e.g., import data, transform and derive variables), and aggregate data using SQL, R, Python, or other coding languages to create datasets that facilitate robust reporting and analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability in the use of business intelligence tools and statistical software such as Tableau or equivalent to transform data, and produce tables, and visual displays that best meet audience understanding.

  • Skill and knowledge of data visualization and dashboarding techniques and principles. Understanding data modeling and modern data warehouse structures.

  • Knowledge of higher education information systems (e.g., Ellucian Banner and Salesforce ) to maximize reporting.

  • Excellent interpretive data skills along with interpersonal skills to effectively communicate data constructs.

  • Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage multiple activities, meet deadlines to complete a variety of assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy and integrity.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward common goals, and to coordinate efforts and collaborate with a variety of individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information and materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, mathematics, or a related major field of study.

  • 2 years of relevant working experience in a quantitative field. (Additional post-Bachelor's course work and projects may substitute for relevant experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field of Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related major field of study.

  • 3+ years of working experience in a quantitative field.

  • Tableau Certification

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute *435.04.

  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:This position is a salaried exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. However, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $57,800 - $62,000, commensurate with experience.
