Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager, HVAC - Repairs and Maintenance - Mineola.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for all activities of the HVAC Shop including direct supervision of 1 foreman, 1 assistant foreman and up to 8 mechanics. Responsible for code compliance of all HVAC and associated equipment. Directs day to day efforts on union shop staff, retains and supervises outside contractors and HVAC consultants, implements maintenance requests from clients, other maintenance supervisors and project managers. Performs shutdowns, startups and testing of chillers, AHUs, and all other critical HVAC Systems to provide safe, efficient and uninterrupted operation and maintenance of plant systems. Perform startup and commissioning for new and existing HVAC and controls systems. Review of all projects affecting existing and new HVAC equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
- Manage NYU Langone Long Island HVAC shop. Oversee all HVAC aspects of projects, assist, and advise project managers. Institute preventative maintenance procedures to provide facility compliance
- Oversee and ensure JCAHO requirements are met hospital wide with respect to HVAC systems
- Manage inventory of campus wide refrigerators and associated temperature monitoring system and ensure compliance parameters are maintained 24/7.
- Maintain all dietary walk-in boxes and refrigeration needs
- Responsible for managing the campus wide medical gas systems (oxygen, vacuum, etc) in terms of maintenance, service and repairs.
- Responsible for managing the pneumatic tube system (PEVCO) in terms of maintenance, service and repairs.
- Supervises and directs the HVAC technicians to effectively perform the functions of equipment repair, installation, start-up, operation, and other duties as required.
- Reviews technicians? work to ensure quality meets established standards, techniques and safety requirements; makes recommendations to improve quality and productivity
- Responsible for HVAC technicians? performance appraisals, reviews and for setting improvement goals per company requirements
- Establishes and maintains a regular training program to ensure that HVAC technicians are properly trained on latest service techniques and safety procedures for equipment and general working conditions
- Communicates regularly with foreman to ensure that personnel are being scheduled properly by skill level, efficiency and training requirements, reporting on project information, estimated time to complete jobs, labor hours and parts or material used
- Maintains communication with vendors and factory personnel concerning warranty issues, product recall notices, operational problems with products, premature failures and other issues as they apply to products and equipment sold to and serviced by the HVAC Service Department
- Develops and monitors budgets, goals and objectives to insure departmental budget is adequate.
- Reviews work orders, invoices and time reports for accuracy, and to ensure timely cash flow and maintain minimal account receivables
- Specifies and makes sure that required parts are ordered in timely fashion to ensure work deadlines are met
- Ensures that all company/department policies are being followed by all HVAC technicians
- Keeps current with latest factory OEM training on current products, coordinates HVAC technician training and maintains training records to ensure personnel maintain proficiency in preventive maintenance, start-up, trouble-shooting, and repair of supported equipment
- Develops maintenance/service agreements; estimates and generates bids for contract projects/work
- Ensures appropriate start-up and commissioning of projects takes place; coordinates with installing contractors/vendors in the performance of prestart-up inspections and completion of turnover of equipment to Hospital
- Work with other departmental managers to meet hospital goals and objectives
- Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient department operations
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Engineering bachelor's degree or commensurate experience including 4-6 years experience in industrial/commercial HVAC systems, piping, fluid flow, electronic/pneumatic control systems, HVAC and Building Automation.
Required Licenses: Niagara 4 Technical Cert
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with all types of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, building automation systems, energy conservation programs, utility distribution, management/supervision in a union shop environment. In addition, should possess the ability to function in stressful situations and respond to emergency conditions.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $92,710.43 - $159,925.48 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
