System Integration Engineer
Job Summary Certain terms and conditions of employment for this position, including the rate of pay, benefits, etc., are currently subject to negotiation with the appropriate union.
This position is considered Flexible / Rotation. Employee will work on a rotational schedule to ensure on-site coverage of key IT functions.
The Systems Integration Engineer leads the design, development, implementation, maintenance and support of real time integration and interfaces between the UCSF Health and Benioff Children's Hospitals Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) and numerous integrated systems that support patient care, medical faculty, clinical staff, administrative staff and departments, and information services. They work under the direction of the Integration Services Manager and is the expert of data integration in healthcare. They possess advanced knowledge of interfaces, healthcare IT systems and the operational workflows. Key technical abilities include the gathering of information from users and defining work problems then translating these requirements into integration solutions. In addition, the Systems Integration Engineer will provide support of existing interfaces and will assist in providing innovative integrated solutions to UCSF Health, Benioff Children's Hospitals and our partners.
The Systems Integration Engineer functions as the expert of integration solutions and assists departments in solving their integration needs. Successful candidate enjoys matching solutions with problems and is excited to share their expertise with the team and departments that seek their assistance. They follow IT policy and procedures and will assist in improving processes and documentation. Strong communication and positive collaboration are critical skills needed for this position. The ideal candidate is well versed in EDI formats, has a strong understanding of all the integration offerings of the Epic EHR yet has a strong desire to learn new technologies and concepts of software design. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $143,100 - $214,600 (Annual Rate). We provide integration platforms and expertise to build robust, reusable and cost-efficient interfaces for reliable data sharing and exchange between applications, platforms and services.
We serve UCSF Health, UCSF Campus, Benioff Children's Hospitals and affiliates. For many years we have worked with UCSF Health providing integration solutions through Epic Bridges and Cloverleaf interface engine, which excels at Health Level-7 (HL7) messaging between healthcare systems. In addition, to accommodate broader integration solutions, we also provide an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and API Manager.
The Integration Services team builds new integrations from scratch, reuses existing integration solutions, enhances existing integrations, and provides consulting to help achieve integration needs. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 5+ years of Electronic Health Record integration support experience that can include Epic, Cerner, One Medical, etc.
- Epic Bridges Certification
- Cloverleaf Certification Level 1
- Advanced knowledge of systems integration, deploying complex systems integration solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of the many healthcare interoperability formats of HL7 v2.x, C-CDA
- Advanced skills associated with system integration design, modification, implementation and deployment in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and workflows of an Electronic Health Record.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with senior-level technical and non-technical management on a regular basis.
- Demonstrated ability to create integration specifications.
- Experience with the identification and use of source codes and code libraries.
- Demonstrated ability to identify software and hardware interdependencies in a complex multi-platform environment.
- Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with senior staff and management across departments, providing advice, counsel, and analysis on issues of policy, functionality, system efficiency, upgrades, integration solutions, and industry advances and trends.
- May be responsible for leading/mentoring other developers within the team
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Epic Bridges and Cloverleaf Interface Engine
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with MuleSoft ESB and API Manager
- Cloverleaf Certification Level 2 thru 3
- Epic Data Courier Admin Certification
- Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer I
- Epic Modules Certification, such as Access, HB/PB, etc.
- Knowledge of healthcare semantic standards (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to develop complex conversion and system implementation plans.
- Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
- Experience developing and implementing project plans.
- Experience researching and evaluating new technology and solutions for integration environments.
- Knowledge of other tools used by the Integration Services team, such as Epic Data Courier, GoAnywhere SFTP and Splunk
- Ability to impart knowledge to senior-level technical and non-technical audiences and to influence outcomes to meet objectives.
