Scope of Work
The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nursing and Operational Leadership according to Beaumont policies and procedures within an ambulatory setting.

Radiation Oncology Brachytherapy nurses play a crucial role in the care of patients undergoing internal radiation therapy. The nurses responsibilities include:
Patient Education: Educating patients about the treatment process, potential side effects, and self-care instructions.
Pre-procedure Care: Educating patient on Pre-op instructions, setting up procedural area with proper equipment to perform procedure and treatment. Prepare patient to undergo procedures.
Intra-Operative Care: This includes assisting and supporting Radiation Oncologist and patient during the procedures.
Treatment Planning: Working closely with radiation oncologists who plan the brachytherapy treatment and providing comfort for the patient during planning and treatment.
Post-procedure Care: Transitioning patient to post-op and recovery, management of side effects and breakdown of procedural area and sterilization of equipment.
Coordination of Care: Coordinating care for the patient, including scheduling appointments, patient assessment, and arranging for any necessary tests or procedures as part of the cancer care.
Radiation Safety: Ensuring strict adherence to radiation safety protocols to protect themselves and others from unnecessary exposure.
Patient Comfort: Providing compassionate care and support to patients throughout the treatment process, addressing their concerns and alleviating their stress.
Brachytherapy nurses are essential to the success of the treatment and the overall patient experience. Their expertise and dedication are vital in ensuring that patients receive the best possible care during their treatment journey.

Qualifications
  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associate's degree or equivalent.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree B.S.N, or M.S.N, or DNP/PhD - if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure date and complete within five (5) years. This is effective April 18, 2023.
  • 2 years of relevant experience acute care nursing experience Required
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - UNKNOWN Unknown Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association department specific Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Specialty Certification - UNKNOWN Unknown department specialty Upon Hire preferred
