POSITION SPECIFICS

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research at Penn State is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Licensing Associate.

This position will primarily assist with the portfolio management within principal areas of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences/Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences.

This position will be located in University Park, PA and will report to the Associate Director of Technology Transfer.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this position include the following, but are not limited to the following:

  • Implementing strategies to develop intellectual property portfolios, including managing complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as corporate innovation liaisons and innovation offices
  • Portfolio Management for Penn State derived inventions, which include providing clarity and outreach to new inventors and triage of new disclosures
  • Generating a wide range of content that supports engaging inventors and industry liaisons to advance portfolios of licensable technologies
  • Translating technical information into business development materials, with a focus on building long-term, strategic relationships
  • Liaison with innovators and licensees on intellectual property and business development matters
  • Assist with the Identification and development of opportunities for commercial partnerships and/or licensing
  • Assist throughout the negotiation and execution process of our license agreements
  • Assist in or identify opportunities to increase OTT's success in reaching our goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience: The successful candidate should have:

  • Excellent time management skills, the ability to conduct multiple projects, and easily prioritize them in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent judgment and soft skills to interface with esteemed faculty members, senior business contacts, and investors.
  • High level of dexterity to understand a diverse range of technologies arising from the University's $1.3 billion annual research base.
  • A high interest and open mind to learn legal skills, complex business development skills, to manage a portfolio, and to educate, guide, and make recommendations to the respective inventor(s) in achieving milestones.

This position will be filled at the Technology Licensing Associate - Intermediate Professional level.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $68,200.00 - $102,300.00.
