The West Virginia University Reed School of Media and Communications seek a dynamic, collegial faculty member for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track appointment. Primary teaching assignments may include public relations writing, ADPR research, ADPR campaigns (capstone projects), and/or teaching in/leading the School's student-run ADPR agency. Teaching assignments may include other courses related to the successful candidate's areas of expertise and needs of the School. The successful candidate also will have the opportunity to engage with the School's active, award-winning PRSSA chapter, which holds one of the nine original 1968 charters.

Active participation in professional organizations in the field is expected, and the successful candidate will participate in and contribute to the School, serve on committees, and engage in the university and professional communities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in communications, advertising, strategic communications, integrated marketing communications or closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of, or strong potential for, establishing and maintaining a scholarly research agenda. The candidate must have a minimum of two years of teaching experience in public relations at the college level.

Applicants will have a developing record of scholarly (peer reviewed, juried) research in public relations and demonstrated teaching effectiveness.

The Reed School of Media and Communications seek a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.

Reed School of Media and Communications offers a Bachelor of Science in journalism (BSJ) degree in 1) advertising and public relations; 2) journalism, which includes multimedia storytelling and broadcast production coursework; and 3) sports and adventure media. The School also offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in multidisciplinary media studies and an online major in integrated marketing communications.

Students intern at top regional and national TV stations, sports programs, newspapers and advertising and public relations firms. Students also have the opportunity to work for campus media, including U-92 (campus radio station) and The Daily Athenaeum (student newspaper). Many students also build their skills by working part-time at local media outlets, agencies, non-profit organizations and within programs and departments across the WVU campus, such as athletics and health sciences, as well as by taking active roles in one of our School's many professionally affiliated student organizations. As part of our commitment to the land grant mission, the School engages in collaborative hands-on coursework and special projects that benefit non-profit organizations and small businesses in West Virginia.

The School offers four master's programs, one traditional on-ground program and three professionally oriented, fully online options. The advertising and public relations program is accredited by ACEJMC.

The School encourages and supports innovation through teaching, research and service activities and has a strong commitment to service-learning and experiential courses.

The College of Creative Arts and Media has over 2,000 students. It comprises four professionally accredited and nationally recognized Schools of Art & Design, Media & Communications, Music, and Theatre & Dance.
