Position Summary:
The Department
of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology is
currently recruiting a part-time instructor to teach Introduction to Political
Science. This course is intended to contribute to curricular content that fulfills
the General Education Requirements and aligns with NJIT's Strategic Plan 2030.
The course will provide students with a fundamental grounding in the principles
of political science, including power, authority, and legitimacy. Also
essential will be consideration of governmental organizations and institutions,
the role of political parties and interest groups, electoral politics and
voting behavior, and international relations. The integration of experiential
educational opportunities would be an important advantage.

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a broadly interdisciplinary
community of researchers and educators that encourages current pedagogy
consistent with the aims of a technologically intensive university. Questions about

Candidates should submit a cover letter (maximum
two pages) and a detailed curriculum vitae. The review of applications will begin
immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Essential Functions:
-Submitting the
course syllabus at the start of the semester.
-Delivering lectures and/or facilitating activities designed to engage students
at all class meetings.
-Assigning written coursework and grading in a timely manner, and providing
ongoing feedback and final grading of students' written work.

Additional Functions:
-Availability outside
of classroom hours is necessary for student conferences.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Applicants
should have a Master's degree in political science or a closely related field
or a J.D. degree in law. The successful candidate is expected to follow course
requirements and adhere to academic integrity policies.
-Prior experience
in university-level teaching, especially in areas related to political science
-At the university's discretion, the education
and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can
demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of
education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in
the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $2591 per contact hour. (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
