The role - what you'll do Barr is seeking a mining geologist to join our multidisciplinary project teams. In this hybrid role, you will support the mining and geotechnical engineering groups in a variety of tasks by providing technical expertise, project management direction, and administrative support. The ideal candidate for this position will have applicable working knowledge of mining geology and related technical expertise. They work well with internal and external clients, efficiently managing multiple tasks while maintaining focus on project milestones and deadlines. This person also can serve as a mentor to early career and mid-career engineers, helping them develop their technical and project management skills. Your impact - key responsibilities
Technical expertise: develop drilling exploration programs, provide field exploration and mapping support, develop geologic models, complete resource and reserve estimation, and write reports for mine technical reports, such as prefeasibility and feasibility. Project management: manage projects or portions of projects involving both metal and non-metal mining, project planning and scheduling, and workload estimating. Field support: provide on-site project oversight and expertise for up to two weeks duration, depending on the project and needs. Administrative: participate in business development. Organize large field investigation data sets for resource estimation or geotechnical purposes. Mentorship: provide support through training/mentorship for other mining and geotechnical engineer team members.
About the opportunity
Compensation: Anticipated salary range of $95,000-130,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Hybrid: A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Reno, Nevada, office. Travel expectation: minimal, up to two weeks continuous job site presence, depending on project needs. Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements for the role may include lifting or moving field testing equipment. About you - required core competencies
Education: Bachelor's degree in mining, geotechnical, geological, or civil engineering; geology; or a related discipline. Experience: 10 years of relevant experience.
Willingness and ability to travel as project needs arise Software: familiarity with mine modeling software such as Vulcan, Deswik, Leapfrog, Surpac, Carlson, Minesight, or similar or willingness to learn. Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
