Job Summary

The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor 2 at the UC Davis Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center (HTC) is a working clinical supervisor position that requires advanced clinical expertise and leadership. This role provides advanced level Nurse Practitioner clinical expertise to a diverse population of individuals with inherited blood and clotting disorders in both pediatric and adult outpatient clinics. The supervisor applies independent clinical judgment in performing initial and follow-up physical exams, diagnosis and treatment, medication management, monitoring of laboratory tests, and coordination of care. Patient management decisions are made independently where appropriate, and interdependently in consultation with attending physicians or other members of the care team. The Patient Care Supervisor will serve as an educator, advocate for families and staff, and become a resource to the hospital, clinical nursing staff, and laboratory personnel involved with the care of these patients.

In addition to direct patient care, the supervisor oversees an interdisciplinary team of clinical staff, including registered nurses (RN's), clinical nurse coordinators, licensed vocational nurses (LVN's), physical therapists (PT's), and patient service representatives (PSR's). The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while supervising the operational, fiscal, and administrative functions of the clinics. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor 2 is responsible for setting clinical priorities, evaluating complex cases, educating both patients and staff, and promoting a collaborative and efficient work environment. The position plays a key role in quality improvement, compliance with healthcare regulations, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License/Furnishing License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) and Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis CPR certifications
  • Family Nurse Practitioner license
  • IV Certification
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • At least one year recent supervisory experience in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic(s) / center(s).
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
  • Self direction and organizational skills to function in an independent supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations and problem solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.
  • Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department highly desirable

Department Overview

The HTC is a clinical service and research unit in the Division of Hematology Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine at UC Davis Health. The HTC include 20+ staff positions, two faculty co-directors, and several adult and pediatric medicine physician faculty. In addition, the clinical services provided to both adult and pediatric patients with inherited blood disorders, the HTC also performs clinical and health services research, with federal funding through the Center for Inherited Blood Disorders in California.
