Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision of all waterfrontand poolprogramming. Maintains and cares for waterfront facilities, including but not limited to, boats, jetskiis, wakeboards,skiis,slide, paddle sportwater crafts, sail boats and boat docks. Prepares and makes sure that all necessary waterfront equipmentareready to be used for summer camp programming. Maintains safe conditions on the waterfrontand pooland ensures that all waterfrontand poolstaff adhere to safety standards put forth by the YMCA of Greater Houston and YMCA Camp Cullen.Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotescampersafety and engagement. Provides a quality experiencetochildren and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility,caring, and faith.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervisesa group ofaquatics and lifeguardstaff, quality of programming and safety of staff and campers.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentallyappropriateand consistent with YMCA core values.
  • Delivers a safe,fun and effectiveprogram

    • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedurespertaining to aquatics activities.


    • Maintains constant surveillance of theaquaticsand high traffic areas onthe LivingstonLake whencampers and staff are present.


    • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines foraquaticsactivities.


    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abusepreventionand emergencies.


    • Takesimmediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up withsummer campdirector todeterminelong term solutions/actions,providestimelyandaccuratereports and follow-ups.

  • Responsible forthe completingdaily tasks related to the physical operation ofaquaticsfacilities,equipment and watercraft.

    • Works with the team toset-up theaquaticsarea prior tosummer camp activities. This includes the completion of cleaning, preparing, equipment set up, and ensuringpresenceof necessary safety equipment as directed by the summer camp director.


    • Observesallwatercraftclosely forsigns ofdamagesand potential safety hazards.


    • Notes anyadditional repairs done fordamagesto waterfront equipment.


    • With maintaina close working relationship with the CFTto ensure that facilities and maintenance of Waterfront equipmentisup to standard.


    • Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.


    • Conductscheck ofaquaticsfacilitiesand equipment for safety, cleanliness, organizationand good repair. Completes general cleaning, organization andmaintenance of facilities and equipment. Notifiessummer campdirectorand CFTof needed facility and equipment repairs.


    • Ensures the availability of water and sunscreenat aquaticsareas.


    • Submitsrequests in advanceforadditional equipment and supplies when needed.


    • Evaluateswatercraftasrequested, providesfeedback, and performstraining and behavior modification as instructed.

  • Participates enthusiasticallywith other program staff toprepare camp for summer camper arrivals, departures, andspecial events.
  • Participates enthusiasticallyinprogramstaffandaquaticsstaff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains positive relations withguestsand other staff.Conveysinformation on programs and schedulesto campers.
  • Attends camp marketing events and otherspecial eventsasdirectedand other duties allow.
  • Representsand promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops and maintainscollaborative relationships with community agencies in service deliveryarea.
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2 years of experiencein aquatics experience
  • Prefer 1 year of experiencein supervisory role
  • CPR, First aid and O2certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
  • Lifeguard certification required
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
  • Boater's License required

Other Requirements:

TheWaterfront coordinatoris required to live on the camp property during the season.
