Job Description: Safety Specialist Huntsman is seeking a Safety Specialist supporting the Environmental, Health & Safety Division located in The Woodlands, TX. This position will report to the EHS Manager. Job Scope This position exists to ensure the Environmental, Health and Safety programs are operating effectively by performing activities within all mandated governmental and Huntsman guidelines. This position will handle, package, and ship hazardous wastes and must be familiar with Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation regulations for transporting hazardous materials. In summary, as the Safety Specialist, you will: With minimum supervision and moderate decision-making:
- Coordinate and prepares activities to sample, identify, classify, profile, label, and manifest waste streams for proper disposal to off-site disposal facilities. Maintain documentation of the manifests along with weekly inspections. Manages contractors for proper waste disposal in accordance with State and Federal regulatory requirements. Control costs to avoid excessive fees and trip charge
- Promotes and manages the site-wide recycling program.
- Lead the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for the site. Schedule ERT training, prepare training materials, and direct training for the team. Schedule drills with the ERT and external response authorities to ensure readiness of the ERT. Maintains an active roster and trains floor captains to work with the ERT.
- Responsible for the general facility (common areas) first aid/AED/oxygen, fire extinguishers, eyewashes, and safety showers, EHS controlled equipment, along with Emergency Response Team safety equipment.
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repair of the environmental, health and safety equipment. Manages the contractor services and maintains documentation of the inspections.
- Schedule, setup and provide training for hot work and start work permits, including usage of monitoring equipment. Provide forklift training, testing and certifications.
- Responsible for the operation, monitoring, recording devices, instrumentation, and analyzers for the process wastewater system. Also conducts or coordinates preventative maintenance of the wastewater system by obtaining work authorizations and purchase orders to conduct periodic maintenance of the analyzers.
- Complete assigned tasks and communicate regularly to all levels within the organization where appropriate. These tasks will be carried out with a high level of quality, timeliness and accuracy such as documents, reports, time-attendance, shipments, inspections, audits and training
Other general responsibilities:
- Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
- Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
- Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
- Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company
Qualifications
- You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States. Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in science, Environmental, Health & Safety preferred, with 0 - 3+ years of related experience
- Or may be substituted with 3+ years related EHS, or chemical laboratory, experience is preferred.
Skills and knowledge
- Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.
- Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HazWoper) preferred
- Forklift Operations certification preferred
- 40 CFR 264.16 RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training preferred
