Manager Data Security Engineering
The Data Security Engineering Manager leads the design, implementation, and oversight of enterprise-wide data security strategies. This role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data across systems and applications. The manager will supervise a team of Data Security Engineers, oversee data protection tools and technologies, and collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to implement effective data security controls. Key responsibilities include team leadership and mentoring, policy enforcement, security strategy and implementation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in data protection practices.

Position Responsibilities:

Data Security Strategy



  • Oversee enterprise data security infrastructure.
  • Stay informed on data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and industry best practices in data security.
  • Partner with BISO and data governance teams to explore emerging technologies that enhance data protection and reduce risk.


Program Management and Execution



  • Manage the planning, execution, and oversight of data security initiatives and projects across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure integration of data security requirements into project lifecycle and data operations.
  • Identify and escalate key data-related security issues and risks, and track
    resolution activities.
  • Define and track data security metrics and key performance indicators aligned with business goals.


Risk, Compliance and Operational Excellence



  • Lead efforts to identify and mitigate data security risks, including through
    vulnerability assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and external audits.
  • Oversee the implementation of tools such as DLP, CASB, encryption, and data classification solutions.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews related to data breaches or policy violations and apply learnings to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including security policies, procedures, and data protection standards.


Management and Collaboration



  • Build and lead a team of skilled Data Security Engineers and Analysts
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, compliance, and technology partners to align data security objectives across the organization.

Position Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or other relevant technology degrees and/or experience OR equivalent through combination of education and/or technology experience OR 12 years of progressively responsible experience
  • 6 years of experience in Network technology and proficiency
  • 5 years of experience in leading and inspiring others
  • 4 years of experience in leading large, complex/critical technology projects
  • 3 years of experience with regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, NIST, ISO 27001)
  • 3 years of experience in managing or influencing others to achieve desired results; direct team management preferred
  • 2 years of experience in knowledge of data security tools and technologies (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Symantec DLP, Varonis, Forcepoint)


Licenses & Certifications:



  • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
  • CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
