Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Munitions and Systems Safety Program Engineer, Senior supporting the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Armament Directorate, located at Eglin AFB, FL.



Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Evaluate Armament Programs: Review and recommend plans, improve systems engineering processes, manage technical baselines, and design/perform system-level tests to meet specifications.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare technical documents defining and recommending system/subsystem characteristics.
  • Management Reports & Presentations: Create reports and presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective actions using engineering principles; validate systems with criteria and procedures.
  • Analyze Engineering Results: Evaluate results of major engineering weapon systems.
  • Engineering Support & Training: Provide technical support and training for acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, deployment, and operations; support risk management activities per AF SEAM processes.
  • Trade Studies & Recommendations: Conduct trade studies on performance, cost, reliability, and schedule; provide technical recommendations, reviews, studies, audits, and analyses.
  • Proposal Analysis: Compare and quantify proposed systems for feasibility, compatibility, and cost-effectiveness; review and analyze various acquisition documents and requirements.
  • System Concepts & Requirements: Review and analyze approved system concepts and user requirements.

Specialized experience in

  • System Safety Program Requirements: Define and ensure planning, implementation, and accomplishment of system safety tasks and activities.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply professional methods and techniques for electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical armament systems, guidance and control systems, weapons fuzing, suspension and release equipment, and related test equipment.
  • Design and Hazard Knowledge: Understand design requirements and hazards; interpret requirements, specifications, and standards for systems safety and test, operational, and logistics requirements.
  • Operational Readiness: Participate in test, flight, and operational readiness activities; conduct and review system safety analyses within system design trade-offs.
  • Configuration Control: Monitor safety-significant system configuration control activities and changes.
  • DoD Munitions Safety: In-depth knowledge of DoD munitions safety regulations and processes (e.g., USAF Nonnuclear Munitions Safety Board approvals, USN Weapon Systems Explosive Safety Review Board certification), standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1316), and AFI 63-104 Aircraft Stores Compatibility Certification.
  • Acquisition Documentation: Experience with acquisition documentation related to system safety, including Systems Engineering Plans, Systems Safety Analyses, Programmatic, Environmental, Safety, and Health Evaluations, and Life Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSP).
  • Nuclear Safety: Advise and assist with Nuclear System Safety and Nuclear Certification when supporting NDB.


Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Top Secret

Education/Years of Experience:

  • Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college.
  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in a related field and 15 years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, five years of which must be in the DoD.

Technical Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of munitions systems, including electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical components. Familiarity with guidance and control systems, weapons fuzing, and related test equipment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of DoD munitions safety regulations and processes, such as USAF Nonnuclear Munitions Safety Board approvals, USN Weapon Systems Explosive Safety Review Board certification, and standards like MIL-STD-1316.
  • Safety Analysis: Experience in conducting and reviewing system safety analyses, interpreting requirements, specifications, and standards, and participating in test, flight, and operational readiness activities
  • Configuration Control: Ability to monitor safety-significant system configuration control activities and changes
  • Acquisition Documentation: Proficiency in preparing and managing acquisition documentation related to system safety, including Systems Engineering Plans, Systems Safety Analyses, Programmatic, Environmental, Safety, and Health Evaluations, and Life Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSP).
  • Nuclear Safety: Knowledge and experience in advising and assisting with Nuclear System Safety and Nuclear Certification when required.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills to oversee safety programs and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
