Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in data warehousing, ETL development, data integration, and/or database management.
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehousing platforms, such as Azure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric for data integration and analytics, supporting end-to-end data solutions across cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools for reporting and analysis.
  • Relevant certifications in data warehousing, ETL tools, or cloud technologies are beneficial but not required.

Position Summary
The Data Warehouse Lead is focused on leading the technical implementation, development, and optimization of the university's data warehouse environment. This position will guide a team of data professionals while ensuring the data warehouse operates efficiently and effectively to support the institution's reporting and analytics functions. In addition, the Data Warehouse Lead will collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research staff, central DBAs, and business/functional analysts to deliver a high ROI for the institution. This role combines hands-on technical work and leadership, providing opportunities for both technical growth and leadership development within a collaborative academic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Expertise in data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, data modeling (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake Schema), and relational database systems.
  • Proficiency in the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL processes, data migration, and automation of data workflows.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex data issues.
  • Experience leading teams and managing projects, ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a commitment to developing team members' technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead the data warehouse team and liaise with technical and functional staff at all levels in the organization

Lead Data Warehouse Development (25%):

  • Oversee the continued development, maintenance, and optimization of the UGA data warehouse environment.
  • Lead the design and implementation of ETL processes, integrations with source systems, and data models to ensure high-quality data availability for reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with functional analysts and technical teams to define and implement data pipelines and storage strategies.

  • Maintain technical support documentation.
  • Provide hands-on technical mentorship to team members.
  • Conduct code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards in data modeling, ETL design, and performance optimization.
  • Assist team members in troubleshooting and resolving complex data issues, ensuring the continued development of technical expertise within the team.

  • Monitor and manage the performance of the data warehouse to ensure it meets institutional performance and scalability requirements.
  • Collaborate with the data warehouse team to optimize ETL processes, query performance, and storage strategies.
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, ensuring efficient data loading, access, and querying.

  • Oversee the management of user access and authentication within the data warehouse environment, ensuring that data access is restricted to authorized personnel.
  • Work closely with database administrators (DBAs) to configure and manage appropriate access privileges across various database systems.

  • Partner with data analysts and other key university stakeholders to ensure that the data warehouse supports reporting, analytics, and other institutional data needs.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
