Position: Unit Secretary / Patient Care Tech- Medical Observation Unit -Days Location: Arlington Heights, IL Full Time, 38 hours per week Hours:
Week 1: Wednesday (7:00am-1:30pm)
Thursday & Friday (7:00am-7:30pm)
Saturday (9:00am-5:30pm)
Week 2: Sunday (9:00am-5:30pm)
Wednesday (7:00am-1:30pm)
Thursday & Friday (7:00am-7:30pm)
What you will do:
Provides patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists patients with ADLs, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
Obtains patient temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, saturation of peripheral oxygen reading, intake and output checks, BG checks (POC), and reports abnormalities to the appropriate individual. Performs procedures as directed by the RN such as thermal applications, perineal care, removal of IVs and Foley catheters, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc. Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
Documents basic patient care, supply and equipment orders (i.e. specimen collections, basic labs, diet orders, EKG's) as directed per unit protocol, into the electronic medical record Transports medications, which are not controlled substances. May be authorized to access secured medication storage locations to perform job related functions.
Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating and transporting patients as directed. Obtains confirmation of diagnostic or medical appointments.
Provides administrative support including photocopying, electronic transmission of medical information to physicians, contacting physicians' offices, pharmacy, and coordination with other departments to facilitate patient care and record keeping. Monitors printers, facsimile machines, and tube stations and distributes information to team members as appropriate.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships. Acts with integrity, consistency and respect for differing views. Identifies factors that interfere with effective team functioning and contributes in a resolution. Treats each individual with compassion, respect and integrity.
Assists in supporting unit patient flow activities such as patient discharge arrangements including, transport services, record retrieval, etc. as directed by the Clinical Manager/Coordinator. Obtains confirmation of diagnostic or medical appointments. Participates in customer service initiatives. May conduct customer service follow-up calls to discharged patients.
What you will need:
High school diploma requiredor5 years' experienceas a CNA/PCT with 3 years' minimum experience in anacute care setting. Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required. Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association. The ability to proficiently navigate computer software systems with accurate keyboard skills for the entry and retrieval of patient data. Data entry or order entry experience on a computer preferred.
