Production Technicians will provide production support for various live events in the School of Music and other venues (both indoor and outdoor), primarily in the areas of audio, lighting, video, carpentry, and rigging. The Production Technicians will also assist in loading and unloading equipment from trucks, set-up, operation, and tear-down of theatrical equipment, as well as perform general maintenance of performance facilities. Production Technicians will lead small crews on projects as directed by the Technical Director or Production Manager.

Must meet the physical requirements and be able to consistently lift/move up to 25lbs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sets up and tears down necessary technical equipment such as lighting, sound systems and back-line, video equipment, in both indoor and outdoor performance spaces.
  • Operates counterweight rigging system, including adding and removing counter weight to and from arbor.
  • Leads small crews during set-up/load-in using light plots, stage diagrams, audio input lists, or other documentation as directed by the Technical Director, Production Manager, and/or visiting artists.
  • Operates equipment during performances, such as spot light, light board, audio mixer, counterweight rigging system, and video switcher in both indoor and outdoor performance spaces.
  • Moves set pieces or other equipment on and off stage during performances.
  • Unloads and loads trucks of theatrical equipment, such as speakers, lighting equipment, deck pieces, rigging equipment.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the performance venue and its backstage areas.
  • Performs repairs and routine maintenance on theatrical equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must meet the physical requirements and be able to consistently lift/transport up to 25lbs and ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and repetitively lift up to 25lbs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skill in one or more theatrical specialty (Audio, Lighting, Video, Rigging, Carpentry, etc).
  • Ability to safely operate power tools.
  • Ability to work in groups and independently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency.
  • Must hold a valid AZ Drivers License and be able to drive for work as required by the UA Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of Production Technician experience.
  • Background in classical and/or jazz performance.
