Job Summary
The Senior Director, Business Development drives strategic growth across stevedoring, marine terminal, and logistics operations by identifying new opportunities, deepening customer relationships, and delivering tailored solutions across key markets.

Primary Objectives
  • Expand the customer base across existing and emerging maritime and logistics markets in alignment with enterprise growth goals.
  • Strengthen relationships with new and legacy customers through a solutions-oriented approach to service delivery.
  • Collaborate across business units to develop integrated offerings that enhance customer satisfaction and operational consistency.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and trade events to identify trends and build strategic partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead business development efforts for stevedoring, terminal, and logistics services including container, breakbulk, Ro/Ro, project cargo, and temperature-controlled warehousing.
  • Support strategic planning efforts by identifying new markets and expansion opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and beneficial cargo owners (BCOs).
  • Collaborate with terminal managers, port operations, and finance teams to gather cost inputs and assess operational capabilities.
  • Partner with logistics operations teams to develop optimal customer solutions.
  • Analyze client RFPs/RFQs, pricing trends, and competitive benchmarks to develop commercially sound proposals.
  • Maintain and leverage CRM tools (Salesforce) to track customer interactions and pipeline development.
  • Work cross-functionally with other business units to align customer solutions and communication strategies.
  • Engage directly with customers to assess service levels, resolve issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Participate in trade shows and industry events to promote the company and identify growth opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Master's degree preferred
Work Experience
  • 12+ years' experience in the maritime and logistics industry with a focus on business development and revenue growth required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve revenue targets and drive growth in shipping, logistics, or supply chain industries.
  • Extensive expertise in end-to-end supply chain management with a demonstrated ability to develop innovative, customer-centric solutions that challenge conventional thinking and drive operational excellence.
  • In-depth knowledge of global shipping and logistics trends, market dynamics, and industry regulations.
  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders at various levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to speak effectively at public events and meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages and cultures.
  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to support strategic decision making.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize objectives, and determine pathways to successfully accomplishing identified goals.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (Salesforce preferred) and standard billing and budgetary tools.

Working Environment
This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:
  • Corporate office environment
  • Vessel and terminal environment - includes moving, shifting surfaces, and active production areas including moving vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
Travel
30% Must be able to travel independently to U.S. locations including Hawaii.

The salary range listed is based on the geographic zone associated with this role: Seal Beach, CA. Starting pay will be determined by job-related factors including experience, education, and business needs and may be modified at any time.

Zone 2: Starting rate $200,000; up to $250,000 for highly qualified candidates

This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment.

Annual Incentive Opportunity: 25% of eligible compensation
