Overview

The Energy Field Engineer position requires a thorough understanding of controls, AC and DC wiring, switchgear operation and application, and power generation. Candidate must be capable of working with limited supervision and guidance in a challenging environment to commission and test CAT generator set installations per customer specifications. The position requires a high level of customer communication and ability to maintain satisfactory relationship with all customers at all times.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Must be able to interpret, and design custom control schemes, develop schematics and operating instructions.
  • Must have thorough understanding of fuel systems, governing, excitation, and testing as related to engine driven power generators.
  • Candidate should have a well-rounded knowledge of protection schemes and their application within electrical systems.
  • Must be capable of programming CAT Energy controllers, and various third party supplied controllers.
  • Must be able to effectively plan, estimate, and execute jobs in accordance with industry standards with safety and profitability as the primary goals.
  • Must understand electrical installation and safety, and effective interpretation and application of NEC NFPA 70 and NFPA 110 standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as an Energy Technician or Journeyman/Master level Industrial Electrician is desired. CAT Energy Certified Analyst is a plus.
  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding, regarding the CAT product line, but will consider applicants that have experience with other Energy brands.
  • Must be able to complete technical start-up of diesel and gas engines and generator sets, automatic transfer switches, and standalone paralleling switchgear.
  • Must be available to work over-time on site and in the field.
  • Must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks that are fluid and constantly changing.
  • Willing to work as a team member and collaborate with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Word document and spreadsheet knowledge preferred.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license with less than three moving violations in the past three years; and, must be able to clear federal background check.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of value-added customer facing behavior for both internal and external customers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; works well in a group problem solving situations' use reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to read drawings, one-lines and specifications to discuss projects with contractors, engineers and architects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - must possess the personal discipline to establish the proper image as a representative of Blanchard Machinery.
  • Enthusiastic - hard worker with the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Organizational and time management skills required.
  • Personal commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence.
  • Experience with CAT Electronic Technician, SAP, DBS, Lotus Notes, and EOMP systems

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside as well as in shop/machine environments (non-climate controlled) and on customer job sites.
  • Position requires employee to be physically present at the job site location.
  • Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, and lifting.
  • Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
