Grain Millers, Inc. is a leading provider of whole grain ingredients used in cereals, breads, bars, snacks and many other food products throughout North America. Proudly we have had no layoffs in our 35+ year history. Currently we are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to work Monday thru Friday. Position Summary

Prepares and coordinates accounts payable information regarding general ledger and supporting documents. Work in conjunction with the Plant Controller to assure a timely month-end close.

Essential Functions



  • Collect and maintain vendor information (including W-9's, certificates of insurance, as well as request/update vendor information forms)
  • Set up vendor ID's in Accounts Payable subledger in accordance with company policy
  • Collect and review vendor invoices and supporting documents, including proof of receipt and authorization, for review and approval by the Plant Controller
  • Code reconciled vouchers in accordance with GAAP
  • Data entry of vendor documents in the Accounts Payable subledger after approval by the Plant Controller
  • Match supporting documents with proposed payment run to be approved by the Plant Controller
  • Prepare approved checks to be signed by the Plant Controller; submit check detail to Treasury Department and bank
  • Prepare approved payment run detail for digital storage
  • Coordinate with Accounts Receivable to maintain freight due schedule daily
  • Prepare supporting schedule for corporate preparation of annual 1099's
  • Solicit and reconcile statements from vendors
  • Review open purchase orders to ensure completeness and timeliness of expense recognition
  • Review and question abnormalities in invoices and shipping documents

Essential Qualification

  • Associate's degree (AA or AS) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; or a minimum of three years of relevant experience in accounts payable or general accounting
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • An understanding of accounting and its operations
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a team
  • Proficient use of Windows, Microsoft Office and other accounting systems
  • Ability to be versatile and work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Must maintain confidentiality
  • Must present a professional, business-like appearance and manner
