Description

  • Leads and directs assigned staff in the design, development, and delivery of safety training programs, technical courses, line worker apprenticeship, and refresher training classes.
  • Manages the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc. safety program, ensuring alignment with corporate safety objectives, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, NESC) and ensures training and services align with organizational policies and industry best practices.
  • Supports the development of training and educational materials, ensuring alignment with ANSI Z490.1 standards for accepted practices in safety, health, and environmental training.
  • Conducts hazard identification and risk assessments, recommending appropriate engineering, administrative, or procedural controls to mitigate risks.
  • Participates in incident investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify root causes and support continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Promotes and supports participation in the NRECA Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP) to enhance safety culture and operational excellence.
  • Executes supervisory responsibilities following organizational policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage stress and collaborate effectively with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned to support the mission and goals of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Safety Management or a related field is required, plus 8 years of related experience and/or training in relevant fields. Alternatively, candidates may qualify with 12 years of related experience and/or training in lieu of a degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  • Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) (obtain within 3 years)
  • CPR Instructor (Obtain within 1 year)



PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS



  • Line Worker Training Certification from a recognized source (Northwest Lineman College, T&D Power Skills, Southeast Lineman Training Center, or equivalent)
  • Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer Designation, OSHA 500 or 501 (Obtain within 1 year)
  • Arkansas driver's license with a Class A or Class B CDL endorsement within 1 year.
  • Certified Instructional Trainer (Obtain within 2 years)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The job requires that 50% to 75% of the time would be spent traveling within a 3-state area. Overnight travel would also be required. Must train and observe under field conditions within the state. The position involves proficiency in climbing wood pole structures, aerial lift, and digger derrick operations, and requires some work during non-traditional working hours and weekends. Participation in storm response efforts is required, including deployment on short notice, extended hours, and work in challenging conditions to support restoration and safety operations.
