DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the SRMD Laboratory Director, the incumbent will serve as Lead Manager coordinating a team of technical support staff in the operation, development, design, instrumentation and coordination of all aspects of structural testing. Main responsibilities include performing qualification testing and performance characterization of structural systems and components, processing generated test data, and prepare written reports for Principal Investigators and Industry clients. Technical responsibilities include, but not limited to, operation of servo-hydraulic equipment and data acquisition systems, using specialized engineering design methods for the design of test setups, performing shakedown testing, assist in calibration and validation of testing equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in Structural or Mechanical engineering and/or or five years of engineering experience in managing, leading, designing, planning, development and construction in a complex structural engineering testing site.

  • Advanced knowledge associated with the planning, development, and fabrication of engineering systems. Advance and specialized knowledge and experience with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical aspects of servo-controlled closed loop hydraulic systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of specialized design work as well as the overall field. Extensive experience in structural engineering and in full-scale testing, including the design and analysis for static dynamic loading, including knowledge of reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry and structural steel.

  • Ability to read high end complex plans andspecifications for the design and modification of existing lab space.

  • Strong creativity and problem solving abilities to apply principles, practices and procedures within discipline to complete difficult assignments. Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience in complex engineering planning, development. design, and construction of large-scale structural test systems.

  • Strong project management skills needed to assume responsibility for accomplishment of research objectives.

  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to estimate time and materials required to perform tasks with strong communication skills using independent judgement, making decisions and solving complex problems.

  • Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience working with staff and researchers at various professional and academic levels, including professional engineer, technical support staff, faculty, postgraduate researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, while assuming a supervisory role.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner; readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence others. Strong leadership skills and specialized knowledge and experience in managing a complex structural testing laboratory and supervision of laboratory personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a team of scientists and technical support staff in collaboration with other principal investigators.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to occasional loud noises, vibrations, heat, dust, and allergens due to construction activities while conducting materials and structural testing.

  • Must be willing to work outside of regular working hours (evenings & weekends) as required in support of research projects.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
