Job Summary:



The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a full-time opening for a Research Services Professional in the Division of Reproductive Sciences, whose principal investigator is a basic/translational research scientist. The selected individual will conduct research focused on placental physiology and function in humans and experimental animals and how changes in placental function causes pregnancy complications and programs the baby for disease later in life. This position has a particular focus on understanding the role of proteins secreted into the fetal circulation in preventing poor outcomes in prematurity.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:



  • Management of animal colonies: Daily check on mice and guinea-pig colonies (including weighing, checking plugs and status of vaginal membranes).
  • Participate in and perform in animal surgery, experimentation and tissue collection
  • Be responsible for maintenance of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for premature guinea-pigs
  • Participate in staffing of the Guinea-pig NICU during experimental periods.
  • Performing laboratory analyses including immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, RNA and DNA isolation, qPCRs, biochemical assays and ELISAs.
  • Participating in general lab maintenance, including preparing standard buffers, maintaining accurate and detailed records of samples, chemicals and antibodies, doing dishes and general upkeep
  • Handling procurement for lab supplies and services for the lab
  • Training new employees, students and volunteers
  • Comply with university policy on lab operations
  • Position requires scheduling flexibility, including days, evenings, and weekend hours.
  • Other duties as assigned

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:


Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field


Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • One (1) year professional level research experience


Senior Level:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:


Entry Level:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Experience with animal experimentation


Intermediate Level:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
  • Experience with animal experimentation


Senior Level:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
  • Experience with animal experimentation


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Flexibility with work hours

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE

Entry Level: $46,274 - $58,861

Intermediate Level: $50,357 - $64,054

Senior Level: $54,440 - $69,248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
