Why Join Us:
|
The adult clinic was created more than 20 years ago to answer the major need of adolescents and young adults with diabetes for smooth transition from pediatric to adult specialty care. Under the leadership of Dr. Satish Garg, the adult clinic has become one of the top teams world-wide in clinical trials of insulin analogues and novel methods of insulin delivery (pens, pumps, inhaled, and now close-loop 'artificial pancreas' systems). In its everyday operation the adult clinic continues to strive for excellence in diabetes care serving approximately 2,900 patients ages 18-75. Diabetes education is extremely vital, whether the patient is newly diagnosed or has had diabetes for over 50 years. As knowledge of type 1 diabetes expands and changes, it is our commitment that our patients share in that knowledge also. Each of our patients is seen by at least one educator while he or she sees the physician. This approach allows the patient to learn about improved therapies for diabetes care, as well as comprehensively address specific issues such as hypoglycemia, diet, or exercise.
