MSW Intern - Ryan White Program

Summary:

The Miriam Hospital Immunology Center is offering an MSW internship to join our interdisciplinary team in delivering comprehensive client-centered services to individuals impacted by HIV. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage in both clinical practice and macro-level social work experience in an outpatient clinic setting.

Intern will work closely with our interdisciplinary team while also contributing to program development quality improvement and federal grant support including data tracking and reporting for compliance.

Clinical Learning Opportunities:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and participate in care planning for clients living with or at risk for HIV.
  • Co-facilitate support groups (e.g. newly diagnosed LGBTQ+ wellness substance use).
  • Provide client-centered counseling under supervision including brief interventions and psychoeducation.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and care coordination with medical and behavioral health teams.
  • Participate in case conferences multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical supervision.

Macro-Level Learning Opportunities:

  • Support program evaluation quality improvement initiatives and community needs assessments.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HIV prevention and education campaigns.
  • Participate in federal grant writing processes including background research consumer needs assessments and drafting narrative sections.
  • Assist with federal grant reporting by gathering service data compiling outcomes and supporting compliance documentation.
  • Contribute to community partnerships policy advocacy and outreach to underserved populations.
  • Help design and evaluate culturally responsive programming tailored to at-risk communities.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program second-year students preferred).
  • Strong commitment to social justice public health and serving diverse communities.
  • Interest in both clinical practice and systems-level change.
  • Excellent interpersonal organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an interest in learning about program funding and reporting requirements.
  • Bilingual/bicultural a plus (especially Spanish Cape Verde Creole or other languages commonly spoken in the community)
