OptumRx helps consumers obtain the medications and products they need to live healthier lives. OptumRx is a leading pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company managing the prescription drug benefit of commercial, Medicare and governmental health plans, as well as those of employers and unions.

The continuous growth and success of our organization has led to this search for an Underwriting Consultant to join our Pricing and Underwriting team. This role will provide the opportunity to build valuable leadership skills and develop solid partnerships with our clients. The successful candidate will be a leader that participates in core pricing activities and development of market competitive RFPs (Requests for Proposals). This leader will acquire a breadth of knowledge in all financial/operational aspects of our business. Primary Responsibilities:



  • Determine pricing for the various products and services we offer, customized for each individual case using a variety of forecast models
  • Leverage business knowledge to propose solutions to unique business problems regularly in a dynamic work environment
  • Build and maintain financial models to assist in the economic analysis competitive RFP work, as well as market checks, and ongoing ad hoc financial analysis for our Health Plan clients
  • Evaluate and recommend alternative pricing options based on market analyses and trends
  • Assess the risk of pricing guarantees offered and communicate such risks to pricing leadership
  • Collaborate with the Sales, Proposals and Legal teams to project pricing and profit for a range of services and products the company offers
  • Gather, summarize and analyze detailed data in a variety of formats
  • Ongoing reviews that directly aligns with client strategies as well as OptumRx guidelines
  • Validate renewal and prospect RFP's for underwriting accuracy
  • Work on large cases and present pricing recommendations to leadership

Required Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of financial analysis or accounting experience
  • 3+ years in MS Excel and MS Office product suite

  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix environment while positively influencing other functional areas
  • Proven ability to generate innovative approaches and solutions to business opportunities

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
