Position(s) I am Applying for
Legislative Assistant, (Government Affairs and Public Policy) Essential Functions:
* Draft cogent analyses of legislative, regulatory, and political developments;
* Assist with the development and implementation of advocacy strategies; * Represent Steptoe and its clients at external meetings and events with minimal supervision or oversight; * Develop and foster relationships with policymakers and staff; * Correspond with clients and relevant parties; * Assist members of the GAPP group in monitoring and analyzing legislative, regulatory, and political developments for a wide variety of clients; * Produce legislative schedules and tracking materials, alerting other GAPP professionals about relevant committee meetings, floor activity, or legislative status updates; * Conduct policy research and prepare memos on key client issues; * Coordinate and attend meetings with congressional and agency officials and staff. Non-Essential Functions:
* Complete other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
* Four-year college degree;
* 1 - 3 years of related legislative or public policy experience (congressional or agency experience preferred). Success Factors:

* Well-versed on the federal legislative and regulatory processes; * Strong and clear writing skills and the ability to understand and synthesize complex legislative and regulatory issues; * Excellent research and analytical skills; * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with the wide variety of personalities encountered in governmental and political environments; * Ability to exercise independence and discretion in decision-making. Work Environment: * Non-smoking;
* Available to work in the office 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at a minimum two days per week; * Must be available to work beyond regular hours when needed; * Must be able to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality; * Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure; * Must be able to comply with all safety requirements in our workplace. |
