ABOUT THE POSITION

Join VHB's Growing Transportation Team in Tampa, Florida as a Transportation Engineer!

VHB is seeking a passionate and experienced Transportation Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding Transportation Planning and Engineering practice in Tampa and Orlando, Florida. You'll work alongside a talented team of planners and engineers on a variety of innovative, multidisciplinary projects across sectors such as municipal and state agencies, higher education, federal lands, real estate, aviation, and private development throughout Florida.

Responsibilities

    Lead and support the planning and design of transportation projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Conduct multimodal transportation analyses including Complete Streets, corridor studies, and intersection improvements.
  • Prepare traffic impact and safety studies, operational analyses, and demand forecasting using tools like Synchro, HCS, and other modeling software.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed engineering designs for various facilities including roadways, pedestrian/bike infrastructure, and transit-supportive elements.
  • Support the development of project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and proposals.
  • Deliver client presentations and contribute to public engagement efforts.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and technical documentation to communicate findings.
  • Collaborate with the team through tasks and review of deliverables.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to integrate planning, engineering, and environmental aspects of transportation projects.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with strategic, big-picture thinking.
  • Proficient in managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities with a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience with or ability to learn modeling and visualization tools (e.g., OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, Synchro, HCS, PTV VISSIM/VISUM, Cube/FSUTMS, MicroStation, Sidra, GIS).
  • Aptitude for 3D modeling and transportation simulations preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of professional experience in transportation engineering and/or planning.
  • PE license required (or ability to obtain in Florida within 6 months).
  • PTOE and/or RSP certifications are a plus.
  • Experience working in or with a consulting environment preferred.
