Department: 3rd Floor Progressive Care Unit Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192 Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend and holiday rotation Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (3x12 hours shifts) Are you passionate about patient care and looking to grow in a dynamic, supportive healthcare environment? As a Nurse Assistant Apprentice, you will play a vital role in ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being. Working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will assist with essential patient care tasks and actively contribute to a positive patient experience. ABOUT OUR UNIT: 3 PCU is a 34 bed telemetry floor designated for the care of acutely ill adult patients with a variety of diagnoses. Whether it is assisting to manage chronic illnesses or help treat acute conditions, our team lives to serve the Downriver Community and strives to provide safe, reliable, care. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Your day-to-day impact includes:
- Performing routine tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens including blood draws, and performing venipuncture and chemsticks.
- Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN.
- Providing compassionate, hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and comfort.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support seamless care delivery.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized patient environment
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Completion of the Henry Ford Health Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)
- Must successfully pass all required testing and/or exams
- Must complete all competencies outlined in the HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program within the designated timeframe
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be able to lift, carry, transfer, and move patients as needed
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Works in patient care area environments, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, potential exposure to infection, and hazardous gases.
