Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Buyer to join its dynamic procurement team. This critical role is responsible for leading sourcing and purchasing activities across direct and indirect categories, including raw materials, packaging, OEM finished goods, and services. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong operational execution capabilities and a solid background in supply chain management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Lead purchasing operations to ensure uninterrupted supply of materials and services.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies such as VMI and KANBAN to support inventory turns and cash flow targets.
- Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships with a focus on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Identify and execute risk mitigation strategies to reduce potential supply chain disruptions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Provide internal training to enhance procurement processes and ensure compliance with procedures.
- Process purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders in alignment with operational needs and customer demand.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics and address quality or delivery issues proactively.
- Keep abreast of regulatory, market, and industry trends that impact procurement and supply chain operations.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems effectively in both Make-to-Order (MTO) and Make-to-Stock (MTS) environments.
- Support quotation processes and manage schedule adjustments in coordination with internal teams and customers.
- Assist with initiatives such as supplier consolidation, cost reduction, and long-term supply agreements.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members to strengthen team capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain roles.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic mindset with a proactive, collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- High level of adaptability, resilience, and customer focus in a fast-paced environment.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems; familiarity with IFS is an advantage.
- Previous experience in a regulated or complex procurement environment is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of government procurement standards (FAR, DFARS, CPSR) is highly desirable.
- APICS CPIM certification or equivalent is a plus.
