Description
The Education and Practice Specialist, under the direction of the Transport Clinical Manager, supports optimal outcomes by providing for the education and development of the nurses and paramedics on the Transport Team. The Education and Practice Specialist supports the functions of professional development in advancing clinical practice and dimensions of professional development through knowledge and skill acquisition, competency validation and life-long learning. This role is also responsible for leading and coordinating the work of the Nurse and Paramedic educators. All clinical practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Education and Practice Specialist will work collaboratively with the Transport Clinical Manager and the Program Medical Director to review performance improvement audits and provide support and education of clinical weaknesses and knowledge deficits identified through the PI process.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in nursing or other health care field (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
5 years Clinical experience in emergency medicine or critical care, with at least two years of experience in the care of pediatric or neonatal patients (Required)
2 years Teaching experience in a health care field (Required)
2 years Transport experience (Preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Meets the qualifications of a Transport Team Nurse or Paramedic

Demonstrates skills consistent with providing CPR Instruction and other clinical programs.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse District of Columbia (Required) Or
Licensure/certification in specialty required as applicable (Required) Or
or Paramedic in District of Columbia (Required) ACLS, BLS and PALS Instructor preferred (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities
Professional Practice
- Support/participate in Shared Leadership, Clinical Practice, Performance Improvement, Nurse and Paramedic Practice, and Staff meetings.
- Ensure that practice is based on evidence of best practice.
- Participate in community activities where educational support is needed.
Education
- Provide for continuous assessment of assigned staff educational needs.
- Develop educational plans that meet organizational and departmental goals
- Coordinate orientation of new education staff
- Coordinate and provide continuing education for clinical staff
- Assess and assure the competency of staff in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Leads and coordinates the work of the Nurse and Paramedic educators
Clinical
- Demonstrate and maintain clinical expertise in area of specialty by periodically providing direct patient care.
- Facilitate problem solving of clinical care issues
- Maintain knowledge of individual patient care needs and identify and communicate complex care requirements to the care team.
- Participate in clinical procedure development
Quality/Research
- Ensure that practice is based on evidence of best practice
- Participate in the creation of new knowledge in the specialty area
- Incorporate performance improvements audits into clinical practice recommendations and educational programs
Consultant
- Conduct programs relative to area of specialty for other departments as necessary.
- Is recognized and called upon as an expert resource to support patient care at CNH
