Position Description:

In the role of Manager Clinical Research you will be working in the Surgery Department.

Purpose

This position will manage all aspects of divisional human subjects research initiatives such that research activities compliantly adhere with institutional, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures. Programmatic efforts include industry supported studies, surgical education, surgical outcomes, inclusive of both quantitative and qualitative analytic methodologies.

This position works in collaboration with the Division's faculty researchers, the Department's Clinical Research Director, institutional research services and recruitment teams, sponsors, Froedtert Hospital's Trauma Program and research services, and the Institutional Review Board. Reporting to the manager are volunteer research assistants and medical students, and employed clinical research assistants, coordinators, nurses, and fellows. The manager works with the Division's Research Director and Chief to oversee the progress of the research program.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail oriented, decisive, always willing to learn, works well with diverse people, and is comfortable managing and flexing between multiple on-going, deadline-driven tasks.


Primary Functions

* Act as a resource for investigators and support staff on pre-award functions including budget development, contract negotiations, and IRB applications.

* Perform as a study coordinator for select projects, typically industry-sponsored multi-center trials

* Advise divisional study investigators and support staff on administrative and regulatory aspects of human subject research.

* Develop and implement divisional research policies, procedures, metric tracking, and organizational tools to ensure compliance with institutional, state and federal standards.

* Manage and create data systems to support data collection, storage, and analysis

* Train staff and students on IRB submissions, including new study submissions, reportable events, continuing progress reports, amendments and close-out reports. Correspond directly with the IRB as needed.

* Assist in the development and management of study and division program budgets.

* Recruit and train clinical research assistants, coordinators and nurses

* Develop and implement standardized expectations for all subordinates; assess, monitor and evaluate work load and performance. Mentor and direct staff to achieve research goals.

* Act as a liaison between Division and Department Administrator and research staff. Work closely with other departments and external agencies to advance the department's research goals.

* Develop, implement and monitor department research QI activities. Implement and conduct quality control processes to ensure the highest data and research standards.

* Develop clinical review data review plan and check specifications. Utilize quality improvement tools & statistical process control to facilitate improvement of systems & processes.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of health sciences, clinical research, healthcare, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, teamwork, and writing skills.

Position Requirements:

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 6 years

Preferred Education: Master's degree

Preferred Experience: Clinical trials, human subjects research, management, research coordination

Certification: CCRC or CCRP required. CITI training required within 15 days of hire.
