Job Summary

In addition to performing the duties of the Sr Surgical Technician, the Principal also functions as a preceptor, mentor and resource to new staff in the scrub role, assists with equipment repairs and maintenance and is the key liaison with the Biomedical Techs.

In addition, assists with service related activities such as checking carts, ordering supplies, and identifying opportunities to streamline the operations relative to the surgical technician role.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $50.72 - $63.21 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Moffitt Long Operating Room (OR) consists of 28 surgical suites. Our primary focus is tertiary/quaternary surgical care using team based staffing. Our complex surgery uses the most advanced technology, including hybrid suites and robotic surgery. Services include but are not limited to: General Surgery, Urology, Transplant, Cardiac, Vascular, Thoracic, OHNS, OMFS, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery.

Required Qualifications


  • Three years experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Graduate of surgical technician training program; or equivalent experience
  • Current CPR Certification
  • High School diploma; or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in one complex surgical specialty or multiple surgical specialties
  • Demonstrated skills in precepting, time management and organization of supplies and equipment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in customer service, problem-solving, and taking initiative
  • The ability to work and orient at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience at UCSF Medical Center as a Surgical Technician
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician

License/Certification


  • Current CPR Certification
