About the Job

This position is located at North Central Research & Outreach Center (NCROC) in Grand Rapids, MN.NCROC is characterized by the diversity of our research activities. In addition to traditional crop and livestock research, scientists at the center study agricultural engineering, environmental issues, forestry, industrial by-product utilization, horticulture, and wild rice.

This position performs general custodial, groundskeeping, and light maintenance tasks following detailed instructions to ensure a clean, safe, and functional facility and campus environment. Duties include cleaning and sanitation, floor care, grounds maintenance, event setup, and other operational support. These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this work and do not limit the assignment of related responsibilities in any position of this classification.

This position is located in Grand Rapids, MN and will work 100% Time in-person.

Major Areas of Responsibility

50% - Facility Cleaning & Setup

  • Scrub and sanitize restrooms and locker areas using approved cleaning agents. Clean mirrors, walls, toilet surfaces, and polish chrome finishes.
  • Collect and dispose of trash, transport recyclables, and maintain clean trash containers.
  • Sweep floors with treated dust mops or floor brushes.
  • Replenish supplies in restrooms and other facility areas.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment, furniture, and lodging for University events and functions.
  • Move and reassemble furniture, office equipment, tables, chairs, benches, and various materials.
  • Assist in packing/unpacking supplies, and, when needed, laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Set up and take down special lighting or decorations as needed for events or programs.

35% - Floor & Surface Maintenance

  • Vacuum carpets and perform deep cleaning using extraction and shampoo machines.
  • Scrub floors with industrial scrubbers and apply sealants using appropriate tools.
  • Mop floors using heavy wet mops and dry them with industrial wet/dry vacuums.
  • Strip and refinish hard surfaces; operate heavy-duty cleaning equipment.
  • Wash walls, clean windows, and polish interior surfaces.
  • Maintain and clean light fixtures; change incandescent and fluorescent bulbs using ladders up to 12 feet.

15% - Outdoor & General Maintenance

  • Clear snow, ice, leaves, and debris from walkways, steps, and roadways.
  • Mow, seed, water, trim, and maintain lawns, shrubs, vines, and green spaces.
  • Edge sidewalks and prune vegetation as needed.
  • Load and unload trucks and materials.
  • Observe and report deficiencies in building hardware, lighting, doors, and windows.
  • Submit written or verbal reports of unusual conditions or maintenance needs

Pay Range: $21.63 per hour (Step 1); depending on education/qualifications/experience
