This candidate will be part of a 45 person team made up of 6-7 Sr Analysts, along with Project Managers, Teradata and Web Developers, Data Modelers, DBAs, and Report Analysts.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Working in conjunction with system administrators, perform server configuration to ensure that the entire database system is capable of providing the services needed
  • Performance monitoring to identify bottlenecks and places where throughput can be improved
  • Security administration to ensure that the database cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties or damaged by anyone
  • Configure access to the data warehouse and communication between the warehouse and other servers
  • Physical database design translates the logical database design to work optimally for the specific database environment
  • Working with State DW developers and Compliance staff to establish standards and guidelines for access to MDHHS data warehouse databases
  • Collaborate with DTMB to provide data/database integrity for software installation and updates; and backup and restore, including:


    • Software installation and database management system upgrades
    • Software upgrades so that the database is in compliance with critical security patches, or software upgrades deemed necessary by the State


  • Work with State DW developers and clients to optimize their queries
  • Developing and analyzing highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance
  • Evaluating products and upgrades for appropriateness and lead the implementation and upgrade strategies
  • Creating / Modifying the database tables, views, or other database objects to support the projects and change requests that impact the Data Warehouse
  • Supporting Teradata patch and upgrades
  • Performing Teradata SQL troubleshooting and fine tuning of scripts
  • Supporting database or system issues reported by Helpdesk or business users
  • Coordinating with the team and customers in supporting database needs and make necessary changes to meet the business, contractual, security, performance, and reporting needs
  • Supporting internal or external audit process and address vulnerabilities or risk proactively.
  • Generating and maintaining capacity management, Space, and CPU reports on analyzing the Spool, CPU, I/O, Usage, and Storage resources and proactive monitoring to meet performance and growth requirements
  • Analyzing project requirements and develop detailed specifications for new and existing data warehouse database related requirements
  • Reviewing and validating the database related test scenarios and results and incorporating extensive knowledge of the Agency's business rules
  • Developing or acquiring test data and initiate tests to determine the accuracy of database logic to produce desired results
  • Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector
  • Meeting with users for clarification and elaboration as may be necessary to clearly define a problem and conceptualize a development plan. Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and make appropriate recommendations
  • Working with the team and data modelers, facilitate modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the business needs of the customer
  • Working with developers and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team to create and maintain database standards

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience with Teradata V18/19/20
  • 5+ years of experience with Teradata Utilities (TPT, Mload, Fastload, BTEQ, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in ETL using Teradata Utilities in a Unix/Linux environment
  • 5+ years of experience with experience with Teradata SQL Assistant
  • 5+ years of deep experience with performance tuning within a Teradata environment (SQL, Viewpoint, Explains)
  • 5+ years of expert experience with SQL
  • 5+ years of experience working with customers and technical users to understand business issues and perform technical analysts to assist in requirements development and solution identification
  • 3+ years of experience with Viewpoint
  • 1+ years of experience with BI Query reporting tool



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Teradata Master
  • Emerging Data Architect experience
  • Proven data modeling skills
  • Experience with Medicaid and public health data sets
  • Ability to work independently and not rely on client or other team members
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector
  • Ability to recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and make appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to work with the Data Modelers and developers, facilitate modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the reporting needs of the customer
  • Experience with Data Governance

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
