Job Details

The Associate/Assistant Dean will work with the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and other members of the Office of Student Affairs and Career Counseling in the oversight of student services, student advising, and student promotions. The Associate/Assistant Dean for Student Affairs will be engaged with students in all phases of the process that leads to the successful completion of the medical degree. In addition, the Associate/Assistant Dean will be involved in program development as well as career advising and mentoring of students as they progress through the residency application and selection process. As a member of the Office of Student Affairs and Career Counseling, this individual will work in close collaboration with the offices of Academic Affairs, Admissions, Assessment, and Diversity & Inclusion.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

* Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson

* Provide individual support and advising to students in the College of Medicine

* Participate in programming and processes to support medical student success, including academic support, wellness initiatives, specialty exploration, and professional identity formation

* Participate in individual advising and class-wide programs to assist students with career exploration throughout medical school and advising for the residency application and match.

* Prepare Medical Student Performance Evaluations for senior medical students

* Participate as a member of various education and administrative committees, including but not limited to curriculum committees, committees to monitor student progress and promotion, wellness committees, as well as ad hoc task forces as necessary.

* Participate in broad oversight of student discipline and accountability issues regarding academic standing, compliance requirements, professional conduct, and implementation of student-related institutional policies.

* Serve as a primary point of communication between school administration, medical student organizations, and medical students. Serve as an advocate for student concerns and needs with the faculty and administration.

* Promote student engagement through cultural, social, and recreational offerings.

* Provide academic, career, and personal counseling; facilitate arrangements for special tutorial assistance, test taking assessments, learning disability evaluations, and mental health support, as necessary.

* Participate in the continual evaluation of programs and processes to assure optimization of services and resources for students.

Qualifications:

M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. required

Experience Required:

* A minimum of 3 years of experience in medical school academic administration (e.g., a dean's office position) or in an educational leadership role such as a course director, clerkship director, advisor/coach, residency training director, or equivalent

* The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work
collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

* The candidate should be detail oriented and possess excellent time management skills

* Strong knowledge about medical student education with proven leadership and experience in medical student advising.
