Responsible for all administrative and operational aspects of the care and use of animals for research, including human resources, physical facilities, safety, quality control, regulatory compliance, and budgetary management.
Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions -Maintains a strong program of service to faculty researchers consistent with federal/state guidelines and AAALAC requirements. -Develops plans for fiscal and operational efficiency and accountability, including programmatic development and space allocation activities. -Prepares and oversees yearly operational and capital budgets for the animal facilities. -Provides guidance and leadership as an active voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees. -Establishes and develops new policies related to animal welfare in consultation with the IACUCs and Attending Veterinarians. -Updates practices, policies, and procedures as needed to remain in compliance with standards, requirements, and regulations of regulatory agencies, including AAALAC. -Oversees staffing needs based on research study requirements. Approves animal care personnel actions. -Oversees billing and census records for the animal care program. Updates software and procedures as needed to process monthly billing efficiently. -Maintains professional growth and development through seminars and conferences to keep abreast of the field Education
Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Previous Management experience 5-7 years required and Animal Care facility experience 8-10+ years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Leadership and mentoring skills to guide and support junior animal care staff. - Must be attentive to details and able to accurately prioritize workflow across the team. - Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task required. - High degree of computer literacy. - Must have sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others. - Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment. - Animal handling and general knowledge of species-specific behavior.
