First Merchants Bank is seeking a Managing Director, Commercial Process and Implementation to join our team! The Commercial Line of Business is focused on enhancing capabilities and accelerating growth. To achieve this, we are seeking a Commercial Process and Implementation leader to collaborate cross functionally with business leaders to drive efficiency, scalability, and improve both internal and external client experiences with a focus on supporting revenue growth. This role is critical in refining workflows, standardizing procedures, and implementing best practices that enable our Commercial teams to increase client adoption, deepen relationships, and maximize interest and fee income.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Planning and Development:

    • Facilitate the development and implementation of tactics to enhance performance of the Commercial Bank.
    • Collaborate with Segment Leaders with Strategic Planning Model Development, incorporating market growth projections, pricing strategies, and investment requirements to provide strategic direction and targeted growth projections.
    • Collaborate with FMB's Financial Planning & Analysis organization to develop tactical annual plans based on the overall Commercial strategic plan.
    • Establish clear and measurable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and a Scorecard to track, report, and recognize key milestones and results against the strategic plan.


  • Business Process Optimization, Transformation and Strategic Implementation:

    • Evaluate current processes, identify gaps, and transform critical processes by designing innovative solutions to create positive experiences and meaningful change for our employees and clients.
    • Lead innovation efforts through the Enterprise Initiatives Governance Review Process.
    • Conduct financial impact assessments for proposed innovations and review them with the Enterprise Initiatives Governance Review Committee.
    • Oversee the implementation of technical and process changes to evolve how the bank serves its clients' needs.
    • Serve to assist in the development and training of our sales team members.
    • Serve as the Process Improvement Leader for the Commercial Bank, driving the development and modernization of business processes to build an efficient foundation supporting growth and complexity.
    • Foster a process optimization mindset and methodology; shape, coach, and lead a program of initiatives to transform the Commercial Bank into a best-in-class organization.


  • M&A Integration:

    • Key team member to assess acquisition targets to identify, document, and evaluate key business process differences related to the Commercial Bank.


  • Strategy:

    • Develop a strategic planning process for the Commercial Bank.
    • Prepare materials for Executive Management Committee briefings in support of the Executive Directors
    • Provide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) reporting for regular and ad hoc meetings.
    • Build key partnerships and leverage points across stakeholder groups (e.g., Business Transformation & Solutions Office, Technical Digital Services, Project Management Office, Commercial Line of Business, Consumer Line of Business and Private Wealth Advisors Line of Business).
    • Define governance structures and engage with key groups to ensure timely progress of milestones.


  • Program and Change Management:

    • Drive a predictive, forward-looking view of performance and escalate issues with stakeholders for resolution.
    • Define the cadence for strategic planning and process transformation meetings, including objectives and stakeholders.
    • Guide the design of trackers, tools, and templates used across the transformation.
    • Support leadership engagement as needed to drive program delivery and acceleration.
    • Lead and deliver key projects and initiatives, including strategic planning, change management, and strategic planning model design.




To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in Treasury Management, Capital Markets, Risk Management, and/or Finance in both banking and corporate settings.


The following would be a plus:



  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in building, leading, managing, mentoring, and coaching teams.
  • Expertise in program management with financial and budget management experience in a transformation environment.
  • Experience in management consulting and designing/executing transformation initiatives, preferably in Treasury.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage numerous projects against set deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a high stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated progression in responsibility over the course of their career.
