Job Title: Cloud Engineer Duration: 10+ Months Location: Chicago, IL OR Tempe, AZ (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week) Project Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Application Developer with a strong background in application development and cloud-native technologies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coding in object-oriented and scripting languages and a solid understanding of cloud platforms. This role focuses on modernization efforts, including refactoring legacy Java/C++ applications into Python and integrating cloud-native capabilities into replatformed systems. Contractor's Role: As a Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in ongoing modernization initiatives. You'll be responsible for translating and refactoring legacy applications using modern languages and frameworks, specifically replatforming Java-based applications for the cloud and updating Python-based systems. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain scalable cloud-based applications Refactor and modernize legacy Java/C++ applications into Python Work with SQL for data integration and manipulation Collaborate within Agile teams across the SDLC (design, development, testing, deployment) Participate in cloud architecture design and application deployment Consume and publish messages via Kafka for system integrations Leverage Git, CI/CD tools, and IDEs for source control and efficient delivery Required Skills & Qualifications: Programming Languages: Required: Python, SQL (developer-level proficiency), Java Preferred: C++, Golang, Rust Cloud Development: Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP Terraform knowledge is a plus but not the primary focus Strong emphasis on application development Tools & Platforms: Kafka Git/GitHub Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment tools Experience with change management systems Proficient with IDEs for debugging and development Database: Able to write and optimize SQL queries Developer-level understanding of database structures and data manipulation
