DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Under the general direction of Print Media faculty, the incumbent provides technical support for the Print Media area for summer courses. The Art Department currently consists of 13 permanent faculty, 30 visiting lecturers per year, 8 technical and clerical staff, and approximately 500 art undergraduate majors and 20 graduate students. The major functional areas of responsibility include demonstrations, safety, and clean up of Print Media equipment and spaces. The Art department staff promote a strong spirit of teamwork and embrace UCSC's Principles of Community in meeting the needs of a diverse range of constituents.

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent provides technical support, demonstrations, equipment maintenance, and cleanup for the print media courses Introduction to Printmaking and Drawing and Art of Bookmaking. They provide demonstrations on technique and process, answer student questions on technique and materials, maintain the Print Studio area, and assist faculty and students with health and safety protocols.

Budgeted Salary: $26.93/hourly
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

75% - Technical support

  • Assist faculty and students in techniques used in Print Media, including proper cleanup.

15% - Demonstrations on Print Media techniques

  • Provide demonstrations on teaching specific use of Print Media equipment and processes as requested by faculty.

10% - Promote health and safety

  • Communicate proper techniques for maintaining health and safety to students and faculty.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with Print Media processes and techniques
  • Demonstrated experience with health and safety procedures related to Print Media processes and techniques and the ability to communicate them clearly.
  • Ability to provide teaching support.
  • Demonstrated commitment to embracing diversity in all its forms and striving for an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened, and productive environment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.\

  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
  • Ability to work safely in areas where hazardous materials are present or stored.
  • Ability to wear proper safety attire (long pants, closed-toe shoes, etc.) and personal protective equipment common in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to read signs and follow directions on labels that are written in English as well as ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and the proper use of chemical compounds.
