Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is$143,000.00 to$238,400.00.

Position Details:

Grainger is seeking a Senior Solutions Architect to lead the design and implementation of technology solutions within our North American Supply Chain. This high-impact role requires an experienced SAP technical leader that can solve complex business problems through technology in the Order Management, Warehouse Operations, and Yard Management domains. We are looking for a leader that can collaborate closely with business teams and product/portfolio managers on solutions, while evangelizing modern SAP and architecture approaches across technology teams.

You will report to the Director, Solutions Architect and work out of our Chicago office. Remote work is possible with travelUp to 10% within North America

You Will:

Design Solutions

  • Gain a deep understanding of Grainger's Order Management and Warehouse Operations business processes and how they are implemented across Grainger's systems.

  • Advise on process improvement ideas, determining their feasibility, conceptual solution options, impacts to people, process, data, technology, and high-level costs.

  • Create end-to-end process and system (conceptual, logical, physical) designs for technology solutions, ensuring alignment with business requirements and adherence to Grainger's architecture standards.

  • Present those designs to the Technical Architecture Governance Committee and Grainger leadership.

  • Lead the design of Supply Chain's data products, events and APIs to enable broader information sharing across Grainger and our partners.

Provide technical leadership

  • Reason between various technical approaches, their benefits, and implications including adoption of SAP BTP vs. custom product development.

  • Develop architectural patterns within our SAP ecosystem and advise on best integration approaches between SAP and non-SAP technologies.

  • Advise software delivery teams on technical solution details and architecture best practices.

  • Document and present domain roadmaps (technology, process and data) and key architecture tradeoffs to the CIO's leadership team.

  • Research current and emerging technologies, and propose their adoption as needed.

Collaborate

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (business functions, product managers, architects, and technology delivery teams) to identify process and data flow improvements and design solutions that meet business objectives.

  • Evangelize SAP best practices across our technology organization.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.

You Have:

Technical Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of warehouse operations or manufacturing processes and ability to conceptualize impacts of changes across processes.

  • Extensive functional knowledge of SAP S/4 EWM, Stock Room Management, and SAP S/4 components supporting the Supply Chain.

  • In-depth knowledge of SAP S/4 Order Management (SD) and MM modules

  • Familiarity with components of the BTP platform

  • Knowledge of application integration (Events, APIs, OData, IDOCS) and data extraction patterns within the SAP ecosystem.

  • Familiarity with data modeling, event-based systems, and API design (OData).

Architectural Skills

  • Ability to lead business requirements and process mapping sessions across system boundaries and transition them to system designs.

  • Ability to reason between technical solution patterns, articulating architectural trade-offs between them.

  • Ability to create and communicate roadmaps, including articulation of reasons for and implications of changes.

  • Strong ability to collaborate and influence within a matrixed organization and work with cross-functional teams to drive solutions.

  • Familiarity with modern architecture practices e.g. domain driven design, event driven architecture, data products, security and networking concepts is a plus.

Education and Continuous Learning

  • A growth mindset with a strong desire to continuously learn new technologies, methodologies, and soft skills to stay current in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.

  • Additional Technologies: Kafka, AWS SDK for SAP ABAP, warehouse automation (OT) technologies, application monitoring solutions e.g. AppDynamics, DataDog., containerized applications.
