Payroll Administrator - Entry Level

Merrick & Company, an employee-owned engineering and architectural firm headquartered in Colorado, is seeking an Entry Level Payroll Administrator I to help ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with regulations and company policies. This role involves union payroll and collaboration with UKG and HR. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the ideal candidate will have strong process skills, integrity, and a willingness to learn.

Typical pay hourly range for this position is $28.85 - $32.69. The base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

• Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing for assigned locations, handling associated administrative tasks.
• Accurate preparation and documentation of bi-weekly payroll:
  • Review weekly time sheets submitted by employees for appropriate approvals and adherence to government and company guidelines.
  • Enter payroll changes into the UKG system saving appropriate source documentation for review and audit purposes.
• Respond to and resolve inquiries regarding paychecks.
• Transparently communicate with team and supervisors so all are working toward same department goals.
• Act as a backup for other members of the department to ensure departmental coverage when needed.
• Support Accounting, HR, and other departments in projects and tasks as needed to complete Payroll-related inquiries.
• Write process documents for duties as necessary.

• Attention to detail, critical thinking and accuracy.
• Ability to read and interpret various types of documentation, including reports.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills; this role will interact with all levels throughout the organization.
• Confidentiality is critical; this role requires managing individual communications related to employees' personal financial situations.
• Basic skills in preparing and navigating Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.
• Articulation of verbal and written communication.
• Proven ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Ability to maintain focus in a cubicle/open office setting.

• UKG and Deltek Costpoint software experience.
• Experience in processing union, Canadian, and other international payrolls.
• Multi-state payroll experience.
• Previous employment with an engineering firm.
• Six (6) to twelve (12) months of payroll and accounting related experience.
